2002. PG. On the surface, this seems like your everyday feel-good film. Underneath, however, it gently raises some rather profound questions about life, death, and the nature of God. Much of the plot is built around a young Irish-Catholic boy trying to make sure his young Jewish friend can enter heaven. The movie ends with a conversation between a Rabbi and the Catholic boy. As much as I like this movie, I feel it could be improved by shortening that conversation, leaving the questions for the viewer to answer.
- What/Where is heaven? What/Where is hell?
- How can we embrace our own faith while embracing people of other faiths?
- Does religious training impede children’s spiritual development?
